I'd like to use a recruiter to find a job, but will I have to pay a fee? |
There is never a fee to the individual seeking a job change. The hiring company pays us to find talented administrative staff. |
What kinds of positions do you place people into? |
McShane Professional Search specializes in Administration. The positions that we most frequently place people into include Executive Assistant, Executive Secretary, and Administrative Assistant. We do, however, place other administrative professional titles such as Marketing/Sales Coordinator, Accounting Coordinator, Human Resources Assistant, Secretary, Office Manager, and Inside Sales Coordinator. |
I have a permanent job and don't want to work as a temp or on a contract basis. What do you offer? |
McShane Professional Search places administrative professionals into permanent, full time positions only. You will interview with the hiring company and be directly hired onto its payroll. |
Who are the companies you work for? Are they big or small? What industries are they in? |
The clients that use McShane Professional Search can be small – medium companies who don't have a formal Human Resources Department to recruit talent, or they may be large companies who are expanding quickly and need assistance in finding good people, or they may be high net worth individuals who need help locating a personal assistant. We place within all industries; automotive, manufacturing, consulting, medical, insurance, and advertising firms as well as many other types of organizations. |
Why would I work with a recruiter to get a new job? |
Most individuals who use a recruiter to find a job do so for a variety of reasons. For instance, most of the people that we assist are currently employed, so they rely on McShane Professional Search to protect their confidentiality and to utilize their time effectively by only interviewing for pre-qualified permanent positions. Also, many of our candidates have been in their jobs for many years. Since the job market has changed so dramatically, these administrative professionals rely on us to educate them on their marketability. |
If I come in for an interview, will I be guaranteed to get a new job? |
There are no guarantees. There are so many factors that bear upon you being placed that we cannot provide a guarantee. What McShane Professional Search can guarantee is that we will assist you in conducting an effective job search. This may mean sending you on interviews that will result in an offer or providing you with information that will aid you in carrying out your own job search. |
How long will it take for me to find a new job? |
This is a difficult question to answer. We have placed people the day after their first interview and have placed people six months to a year after first interviewing them. A person's experience, skills, motivation to make a change all play a part in how fast they can be placed. The availability of suitable jobs will also determine how long it might take. In any event, McShane Professional Search will give you an accurate assessment of how long it may take when you are interviewed in our office. |
How many interviews will I have to go on to land a good job? |
Several conditions will determine how many interviews you'll need to complete before receiving an acceptable offer. First, your recruiting consultant needs to understand your career goals and must be able to identify opportunities that will fulfill them. Second, your recruiting consultant must have a full understanding of the hiring company's need in order to select you for the opening. Third, your recruiting consultant needs to have a high degree of control over the hiring process. If these conditions have been met, and you have interviewed for three openings and not received actual offers, then you and your recruiting consultant need to regroup to identify what might be keeping you from that goal. |
I am really nervous, this seems like it's a job interview. What do I need to do to prepare? |
This is an interview, but it could be the most important interview you'll ever experience. Unlike a company interviewer, we are not here to rule you out or eliminate you from the running. We are here to assist you in taking your career to the next level. As far as what you need to prepare for, dress professionally as you would for any interview, find the most updated version of your resume if you've prepared one, and begin thinking of what parts of your job you like, and what parts you'd like to see improved. |
If I use a recruiter to find a job, can I still look on my own? |
Absolutely! A good recruiter will have no problem with you fielding opportunities on your own. It is a good idea however, to let the recruiter know where you are interviewing on your own to avoid duplication and the embarrassment of presenting you to an employer that is already considering you for a job. Often times, your recruiter can give you valuable information about companies that will assist you in preparing for the interview. |
I've been an Executive Secretary for 15 years and have great skills. Do I have to take a typing test? |
Some employers (particularly larger companies) do require skills evaluations. At McShane Professional Search, we treat each job seeker on an individual basis, and will not administer redundant, time-consuming skills evaluations. We are interested in learning about your career goals first and your skills second. If administering skills evaluations will enhance your chances of landing a great opportunity, we will require it. |
My current salary is $40,000.00. I think I am worth a lot more. How much can I expect to earn by making a job change? |
This is a difficult question because NO ONE wants to hear the answer. I have found during my 17-year career in the recruiting business that employers will normally offer a candidate no less than he/she is currently earning to no more than about a 10% increase. That is the average; of course, there are isolated cases where an individual receives more than 10%. Many factors will bear upon what you feel is a good offer (for instance benefits, advancement opportunity, bonus potential, etc.). |
I am a teacher, but during college I worked in a dentist office. Now I want to be an administrative assistant, can you help me? |
Using a recruiter to assist you in changing careers is sometimes difficult. When an employer hires a recruiter to identify an individual for a specific opening, it is assumed that the candidates who are presented possess all of the appropriate skills and experience for the position. McShane Professional Search may not be able to place you in your next job as an administrative assistant, but we can certainly assist you in formulating a plan that will get you to your next job. |
